About Us
Our Mission
We are dedicated to promoting and advocating for access to higher education for currently and formerly incarcerated individuals. Through policy reform and targeted programs, we strive to remove barriers that limit educational opportunities and empower justice-impacted men and women to build fulfilling, productive futures.
Our Vision
We envision a society where all justice-impacted individuals have equitable access to higher education, free from barriers and discrimination. By fostering inclusive policies and creating pathways to opportunity, we aim to transform lives, reduce recidivism, and inspire a future where every person can achieve their fullest potential and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
led by the justice Impacted
Our Founder, Shad Hagan, is a directly impacted individual himself. Shad was incarcerated in both State and Federal prison systems. Shad experienced barriers to education and advocated for removing the Criminal History question from the college application. He holds an M.S. in Criminal Justice and a B.S. in Corrections. He previously served as a Behavioral Health Case Manager II in a drug treatment facility and a Correctional Case Manager at the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
As an Academic and Lived Experience Expert, Shad brings knowledge and firsthand understanding to our work with the Criminal Legal System. His perspective ensures that our efforts remain grounded in empathy, practicality, and a genuine desire for positive change.
As part of our commitment to breaking barriers, Bridges Built By Us champions education and advocacy for justice-impacted individuals. Together, we work toward fair access to higher education, empowering communities and fostering second chances
